The Beginning of a Movement: My First Step Towards Making a Lasting Impact

In 2016, my life took a turn that I could never have anticipated. That year, I traveled to Cagayan in the Philippines to set up my very first individual charity project—an orphanage that would also serve as an Islamic learning center and Hāfiẓ school. The experience was humbling, transformative, and, ultimately, the start of a mission that continues to drive me today.

My journey took me to Iligan, a town in Cagayan, where I witnessed firsthand the devastating aftermath of conflict. Many children had lost their parents to the ongoing violence that had claimed countless lives, including many within the Muslim community. As I walked through the streets, I saw orphaned children struggling to survive, with no one to care for them and no opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty. Their plight touched me deeply, and I knew I had to do something.

This trip wasn’t planned as a major endeavor, but the moment I saw the need, I realized it was a calling. I couldn't turn away. I saw children without a safe place to sleep, without the love and care of family, and without access to education or the chance to learn about their faith. In that moment, it became clear: these children deserved better, and I could help.

With the support of kind-hearted individuals who believed in this cause, we purchased a piece of land to start building. This was no small task—it required time, effort, and unwavering determination. Yet, every brick laid, every room constructed, felt like a step closer to providing these children with a chance at a brighter future. It wasn’t just about creating a building; it was about building hope, love, and a safe environment where these children could thrive.

The orphanage was designed not only to provide shelter but also to serve as an Islamic learning center and Hāfiẓ school. The vision was to nurture both the minds and hearts of the children, giving them a solid foundation in education and faith. It was about empowering them to rise above their circumstances and become leaders, role models, and positive contributors to society.

Fast forward to 2024, and Alhamdulillah, the impact of that initial trip has been profound. Hundreds of students have passed through the doors of our center, and many have gone on to memorize the Quran. Seeing their growth, their smiles, and their success fills my heart with gratitude and motivates me to keep pushing forward.

That trip to Iligan in 2016 wasn’t just the beginning of a charity project; it was the beginning of a mission. It showed me how much of a difference one person can make when driven by compassion and the desire to help. It also taught me that small steps, fueled by sincere intentions, can lead to unimaginable outcomes.

This journey has become a cornerstone of my life, and it’s my mission to continue making a difference, one project, one life, and one act of kindness at a time. May Allah continue to bless these efforts and inspire others to contribute to such meaningful causes. If you’ve ever wondered whether you can make an impact, let this be a reminder: you absolutely can.
